In computer language, beta is a term used by software programmers for a non final version of a software. They think it's ready to use but they won't guarantee that it's woking perfectly. They want people to use it to find out the last few bugs that needs to be fixed.

Usually you can get beta versions for free but beware as they could crash your computer.

Some games also offer add-ons (for example to edit maps) which can be beta.
